Google increases its USA search result market share and introduces voice search on Apple iPhones

Hitwise reports that in October 2008 Google accounted for 71.7% of all USA Web searches, an increase from 71.2% in September and up from 64.5% in October 2007.

Yahoo had a drop in search market share from 18.1% in September to 17.7% in October.

Microsoft increased its search market share from 5.34% in September to 5.4% in October. However, a year ago, Microsoft had a 7.4% of the search market.

Ask.com had its search market share reduced from 3.6% in September to 3.5% in October. A year ago Ask.com had 4.8% of online search.

In addition to Google’s improved search market share results, the New York Times reports that Google is about to launch an online voice search application for Apple's mobile phone.

The free iPhone application is Google's initial venture into voice based internet search.

Microsoft and Yahoo already let Smartphone users search the web with spoken queries.
